Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg LLP is currently seeking a private client paralegal in our Providence office with expertise in the administration of RI, MA and CT domiciliary and ancillary estates, trusts and guardianships. The candidate will need experience in: meeting with clients and beneficiaries throughout the estate administration to discuss the status and next steps; preparing RI, MA and CT probate documents throughout the estate administration; gathering information from various sources relating to estate and trust assets; coordinating obtaining date of death valuations of the assets; retitling assets; collecting assets; paying estate expenses; preparing estate and trust accountings; calculating and coordinating estate and trust distributions; preparing federal and state estate tax returns; preparing individual and fiduciary income tax returns.
Paralegals are highly valued members of our team and will work closely with our attorneys and represent the firm with substantial contact with our clients. Candidates should have a minimum of five years experience as a private client paralegal (and/or tax preparer), a strong history of academic achievement, thrive in a fast-paced professional environment and enjoy challenging work that results in appropriate rewards. Key characteristics of ideal candidates include: maintains open, effective communications with clients and coworkers, exceptional writing and analytical skills, strong initiative, detail oriented, ability to handle multiple administrations concurrently and keep track of multiple deadlines (expertise in preparation of tax returns) and the ability to move estate administrations to conclusion. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel are essential and proficiency in ProSystems FX and GEMS would be ideal. Bachelors Degree preferred.
